How I Got Into Fanfiction

I am a massive fan of One Direction, my room is covered in posters of them, some people describe it as a shrine. One day, after seeing a lot of 1D imagines on instagram, I decided to take it up a notch and start reading some fanfictions, so I googled One Direction fanfiction and it came up with a website purely for posting fanfiction. I started reading them and instantly fell in love with the world that is fanfiction. After a couple of months of reading them, I really wanted to try it myself.

My first story was titled 'Just A Girl From L.A.'. It featured a girl who I named Destiny. I have to admit, this was a terrible story, with a rushed plot and a very unrealistic feel to it. She went to a meet and greet which she had won a competition for and wowed Harry so much that he asked her to be his girlfriend right then and there. She went on a private jet with Eleanor, Danielle and Perrie to get there as they had been in L.A and were going to the concert so she and her friend Tiffany got talking to them and they took them back to the boys' house where Niall and Harry took a liking for them. The next day, Harry was dating Destiny, and Niall, Tiffany. This was a completely unrealistic story but it really helped me learn what I needed to do to improve my stories. Sometimes, you need to fail in order to succeed. I had 5 subscribers.

Next, I wrote a story called 'University of London'. This story was much more realistic, also featuring a girl from LA but named Madeline Anderson. She moved to England to do a degree in Fashion at London University and moved in next door to Louis and Harry. She had caught Harry's eye on the way out of the airport and when he saw her going into the building, he had to investigate. Again, I'm not very good at dragging out the dates stage and it took six days for them to become boyfriend and girlfriend but they didn't say 'I love you' until 3 months. I found this made my story much more realistic.

I am now writing a story named 'Overworked'. It is the sequel to University of London and it shows Maddie and Harry battle their family life as well as their jobs. Set 10 years after University of London finished, it shows them with 3 children and some jobs requiring a lot of commitment. I am so much more proud of the last two stories I have written than the first one.

I also write little segments of story which come into my head, whether I actually publish them on the site or not is another matter.

If like me, you adore and I mean are seriously obsessed with a famous person and believe that you could write a good story, I encourage you to try fanfiction. It really helps me to get away from reality for a while and just imagine what life could be like if it went how you wanted it to. Its a way of writing down your thoughts and feelings and I assure you it feels so much better to get it out. Whether you publish it or not, that's up to you, but for anyone who has spare time and doesn't know what to do with it this summer and is seriously obsessed with a famous person of some kind, give it a try.
